Many homeowners have installed some type of alarm system to help protect their property and give them peace of mind. There are also smart phone apps available to help monitor homes remotely. Having one of these systems in place could make a policyholder eligible for a credit on their homeowners insurance policy.

This type of discount, or a similar one, is offered by Consumers Insurance, Iowa Mutual, Motorists Mutual and Phenix Mutual. Whether or not a credit is available will depend on the type of protection system, and the available credit will vary per company.
