SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FOODBANK
This month, Encova associates learned about different ways to support local foodbanks and the impact foodbanks have had during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Feeding America, there has been a 55% increase in the number of people seeking help from foodbanks, and over 6 billion meals have been distributed during the pandemic. By providing financial support, volunteering and advocating for local foodbanks, our associates can help support our communities – and you can, too!
In spring 2020, our foundations supported local foodbanks by donating $130,000 to 26 different foodbanks across our footprint recommended by you, our agents. Thank you for your support as we give back to our communities! Here are some other ways you can get involved:
Financial support
Foodbanks rely on the generosity of their communities, and every dollar donated makes a difference. Almost all foodbanks give you the option to make a donation on their website.
Volunteer
During the pandemic, foodbanks are limiting the number of volunteers they have on-site. However, they have adapted their food distribution models to accommodate local and federal requirements, including limited building capacity and physical distancing. Foodbanks have established many protocols to keep employees and volunteers safe while still meeting the needs of their clients. Almost all foodbanks provide information about volunteering and their COVID-19 protocols on their website.
Advocate
As important as it is for individuals to support local foodbanks, it’s equally important to spread the word about the need for support and the impact foodbanks have on our communities. By sharing volunteer opportunities with your family and inviting your network to donate to your local foodbank, support for the organization will multiply.
We value supporting our local communities and organizations and know that every gift makes a difference.
